Jackson could keep foes on run

Last year, Jackson shot holes in the ol’ “sophomore jinx” theory by leading the Bulldogs and ranking in the top 10 for the Western Athletic Conference for ground gaining with 854 yards and seven touchdowns on 170 carries.
He was also one of the league’s most dangerous kick returners, racing back 29 kicks for 702 yards, a 24.2 average and a touchdown (that one being the first for the program since the 1990s).
So can Patrick Jackson advanced his numbers to an even greater, more meaningful degree for the 2007 season?

Watch a game, save newborns

Grambling State University is also stepping up to support the cause. Several of the school’s organizations will host activities this week to raise money for the March of Dimes. Establishing a goal of $3,000 for the university, the Student Government Association is accepting donations from both students and community members. Today, students in the male and female dormitories will compete against each other to see who can raise the most donations in “Battle of the Sexes.” Tonight from 5-7:20 p.m., students will perform in the “Eighth Annual Sidewalk Show,” in front of the men’s gymnasium.

Stroll by as tomatoes fly

The boy, appearing embarrassed and caught off guard, pointed to the driver and said, “Oh, that was him. He just always does that.”
On another occasion, he followed a carload of shouting young men to a fraternity house. After stepping off of his bicycle, he strolled up and knocked on the door. When a young man answered, my father pointed to the vehicle he had pursued and asked if the driver was there.

Franke named Business of the Year

Franke Consumer Products was named the 2007 Ruston-Lincoln Parish Business of the Year, while Mary Margaret van Diest, business writer for The Ruston Daily Leader, was named Small Business Champion of the Year.
Business of the Year
Franke, owned by the Swiss company Franke AG, came to Ruston in 1989. The local operation has expanded several times, and this year will begin manufacturing steel beer kegs. Franke is the global market share leader in kitchen sink production.
