Alderman's allegations inappropriate

What was supposed to be a fairly routine vote among the aldermen turned into a spectacle in which insults were hurled and unverified accusations were made. In the end, Mayor Dan Hollingsworth’s recommendation of Ruston Police Capt. Bill Davis for the position of police chief failed as aldermen Jedd Lewis, Elmore Mayfield and Levell Thurman voted against the nomination and aldermen Jim Pearce and Marie Riggs voted in favor.

Courtroom leaves impression

Sitting in the courtroom to gather information for a story, I saw a number of men and women who were already incarcerated brought before the judge who entered pleas or requested a lawyer.

Cougars, ’Dogs collide Friday

There’s been a first-ever perfect record in the regular season, then last week’s cruise control decision that made the 2007 squad the first one ever to post 11 wins in a single season.
“We’ve just taken the approach all year long of ‘the next game is the most important game’,” Aldredge said. “Last week, it was Plain Dealing. This week, it’s White Castle.”
The Bulldogs come in with a solid reputation as one of the state’s most successful Class 1A programs.
For sure, they’ve got one of Louisiana’s most dangerous offensive players on their roster.

Aldermen to pick police chief

Ruston Mayor Dan Hollingsworth plans to recommend Capt. Bill Davis as the new police chief to replace Randal Hermes, who retired in May after 14 years and took over as Louisiana Tech chief of police.
The recommendation is expected to be made at noon today during a special meeting with the board of aldermen.
