Dubach eyes scenic byway designation

The National Scenic Byways Program is a community-based program administered through the Federal Highway Administration to recognize, protect, and promote America’s most outstanding roads.
Through the Louisiana Department of Transportation, communities can apply for designation as a State or National Scenic Byway and receive funding from the administration.
Dubach Mayor Margaret Rogers said the designation would open up avenues for marketing, publicity and funding.
“A lot of publicity goes along with this,” she said.

Nicholson: LSU is pick

Well, that’s exactly what the Ruston High School pitcher will be doing.
Nicholson has verbally committed to the highly successful Southeastern Conference program and will officially sign a national letter-of-intent during the NCAA’s early signing period this fall (in November).

Donations still needed

Thanks to donations, 4-PAWS has been able to expand their fencing area so puppies can stay with puppies, nursing mothers can be by themselves and the general pack can run in a larger area. None of this could have happened without the generous contributions from area residents.
However, donations are still needed. Every pet that is adopted from 4-PAWS receives a new collar with a brass tag and usually with some treats and a leash. The dogs are also checked by a vet, vaccinated and spayed or neutered. This all costs money, which usually comes from the volunteers’ pockets.

It’s almost back to school time

She added parents should read student policy handbooks and note policy changes regarding cell phones and school uniforms, and they should make an effort to open the lines of communication with their children’s teachers.
“Usually when there is a conflict between the school and home it is due to a lack of communication,” Null said.
“Parents should make a point to meet the teacher and go to Open Houses to establish the communication patterns for a child’s progress.
For instance, some teachers will send progress folders each week and others every three weeks.”
