Sparta bills pass House

Opponents of the bill argued that rotating the meeting would mean less attendance in those parishes where there is little use of the aquifer.
Opponents also contend the Sparta Commission is being singled out with legislation that directly affects its operation. Other commissions throughout the state are not affected by this legislation and are allowed to select their own domicile without political influence.
Those supporting the bill claim the revolving meeting allows more people to become involved.

Community invited to take back the night

Next week, the Ruston Police Department will offer its training and expertise by hosting a self-defense workshop at 6:30 p.m., April 20, at Tech’s Memorial Gymnasium.
Additionally, in support of National Sexual Assault Awareness Month, many students choose to wear black T-shirts every Friday in April to support the survivors of violent crimes. Also, community activists and concerned students have donned white pins reading, “TBTN,” displaying their support for Take Back The Night, a rally, march and vigil which will take place at 7 p.m., April 26, at Tech’s Quadrangle.

Bulldogs pour it on against G-Men

The Bulldogs (20-13) struck early, late and in between on the way to ringing up the milestone decision and scoring 20 or more runs for the second time in as many tries against the Southwestern Athletic Conference member this year; earlier in the season, Tech was a 21-1 winner at J.C. Love Field.

Tax talk — Are dogs dependents?

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, for the second year in a row I join the group of taxpayers who still owe a little something to Uncle Sam — despite the large amount he absconds with every pay period.
The members of this group must forego the typical celebration associated with the day (no new play-pretties for me) and instead hang our heads as we miserably write out a check to the government.
