Economy booming inside parish

Obviously the folks who filed those reports haven’t been to Lincoln Parish lately.
Consider these local economic indicators:
• The new eight-screen cinema is expected to open June 1;
• Lowe’s opening is set for May 5;
• Construction will soon begin on an Applebees and a Starbucks;
• Ground has been broken on two new hotels for the area, with possible plans for a third;
• Construction has started on the I-20 Service Road project; and
• There is hardly an area of the parish that is not experiencing growth in the housing market.

Stupidity runs all the way to the bone

After reading White’s e-mail, then pondering a similar experience on my part, it would be my recommendation to replace the word “ugly” in the above statement with “stupid.”
It seems that a gentleman was in a pawn shop and saw a purse-sized Taser. Figuring it would make a wonderful gift of protection for his wife of 22 years, he made the purchase.
The Taser was powered by two AAA batteries that allegedly would send 100,000 volts through a would-be assailant, affording the victim a chance to escape before the attacker could regain his senses.

Shockers stun, send Vols home

Now the Shockers are savoring an even bigger victory.
Karon Bradley hit a go-ahead stepback jumper with about 2 minutes left while P.J. Couisnard followed with a big 3-pointer to help Wichita State beat Tennessee 80-73 Saturday in the second round of the Washington Regional.
The victory over the second-seeded Volunteers (22-8) marks Wichita State's first trip to the round of 16 since reaching a regional final 25 years ago.

Bodies, brains in shape to learn

The Student Government Association at Louisiana Tech University got together with the Department of Student Affairs to offer students a “Celebrate Wellness” event that took place in the Thursday in the Student Center.
SGA President Lindsay Mencacci said the organization wanted to put on a wellness fair that was entertaining as well as informative.
