Cartoonists beat top inventors

In the 25-plus years that Susan and I have been together, I’ve learned a lot from my little Texan.
For example, you can eat rice without having to add gravy.
Through Susan the worlds of fried rice, Spanish rice, wild rice and brown rice entered my vast food repertoire.
Susan also showed me that fish doesn’t have to be fried to taste good. Granted, fried fish is a southern tradition that tastes absolutely wonderful. But did you know that it is also good baked and broiled? It’s also a lot better for you — that is if you keep from doctoring it up too much.

Kostelka challenges Tech graduates

Louisiana Tech University held its fall commencement at 2 p.m., Saturday inside the Thomas Assembly Center.
Tech President Dan Reneau said the service went well.
“This is a happy occasion,” he said. “There were 399 graduates, and it was a nice, timely commencement.”
Commencement speaker for the ceremony State Senator Robert W. Kostelka, R-Monroe, said he noticed how young some of the graduates were.
“The graduates were beaming with pride and happiness,” Kostelka said. “It made my day to see that.”

Talent, merchandise on display for Studio Artists Tour

Sixty artists at 22 sites will still be showing their work this afternoon from 1-5 p.m. during the Fall Studio Artist Tour in Ruston. By mid-day Saturday participating artists and merchants were reporting a great turn-out.
Each exhibitor and each visitor had a unique experience to report with many adding that they planned to continue their tour Sunday.
