A 1996 Kawasaki EN 500 has been stored at Bradshaw’s Body Shop, 2112 Farmerville Highway, Ruston, LA since 12/26/2012. If all current charges are not paid and vehicle claimed by owner by 2/6/2013, a permit to sell or dismantle may be obtained.

June B. Webb passed away on January 24, 2013. Services will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, January 27, 2013 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Ruston, LA. Visitation will be held at the church from 2-3PM prior to the service. Born on January 26, 1920, June was the daughter of Willie Walker Baird and John Freeman Baird. She graduated as a Registered Nurse from St. Luke’s Hospital of Nursing in Bluefield, West VA. June was a proud World War II veteran. She served in New Caledonia in the South Pacific as a second lieutenant in the Army Nurses Corps.

Devonne Hammons Fussell

Funeral services will be held for Devonne Hammons Fussell, 83, at the Rocky Springs Baptist Church in Lisbon on Monday, Jan. 28, 2013 at 10 a.m. with Rev. Larry Sellers, officiating. Interment will follow at Rocky Springs Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 405 E. 5th St. on Sunday from 5-7 p.m.

Funeral home ablaze

Two bodies evaded damage after a local funeral home was destroyed in a fire on Saturday morning.
Crowds stood around the area Ruston police were blocking off to watch firefighters attack the blaze at Our Christian Funeral Home on Jones Street.
Ruston Fire Department Public Education Officer Eric Brazzel said there were two bodies in the home — one in the chapel for a funeral on Saturday and the other in the morgue area.
Resident Neil Davis said he made the 911 call around 10 a.m. after he and a man who worked for Our Christian Funeral Home spotted the smoke.

Suspect burned severely

Grambling man faces multiple charges

A reported domestic disturbance ended with a mobile home fire in Grambling and a suspect suffering severe burns.
According to a news release from the Grambling Police Department, at approximately 4:30 p.m. Thursday, the department responded to the 1500 block of MLK Drive in reference to a possible family disturbance.
However, upon arrival it was determined that Larry W. Brown, 50, had allegedly traveled to Ruston to confront his spouse who took shelter with a friend.

Frat house fire erupts

According to the Ruston Fire Department, investigation of a recent fraternity house fire revealed the inappropriate use of extension cords, which shorted out causing the fire.
RFD responded to the structure fire at the Alpha Gamma Rho house on West California Avenue at 10:59 am. Friday. On arrival firefighters found flames coming from the rear of the house. It reportedly took about 20 minutes to completely extinguish the fire.
RFD Public Education Officer Eric Brazzel said the structure was an older home with one power outlet in the room of origin.

Mardi Gras Ball to benefit RCSS, NCLAC

It’s Carnival in Louisiana and to mix culture with the arts, the Ruston Civic Symphony Society will host its 13th annual Krewe of Allegro Mardi Gras Ball in February, with King and Queen Bill and Lynne Gnemi presiding over the festivities.
“It has become really successful throughout the years,” said Becky Napper, treasurer of the Ruston Civic Symphony Society. “It has become a tradition. People come year after year. We usually see anywhere from around 200- 300 people.”

Tuten named ‘Best’ man

Humanitarian award winner to be recognized

Jim Tuten readily admits he’s afraid of heights. Yet over his 40-plus years of volunteerism, Tuten has worked on the roofs of countless houses, and even a 70-foot church steeple.
It’s just all part doing of what one’s called on to do to help others, said Tuten, winner of the Ruston Rotary Club’s 2012 Bill Best Humanitarian Award. The award recognizes a local resident for outstanding contributions to humanitarian interests, unselfish giving and service to others in times of need.
