So today is the last day of September. Where did it go? I keep projecting my life into the future, then it dawns on me that I may be wishing my last days away. However, I don’t linger there, but just move on.

Local celebrates centennial

On Sept. 18, Agnes Belle Robinson Grafton celebrated her 100th birthday at The Russ House.
Grafton was born in Ruston and resided in Bernice with her husband “Sport” Grafton. She was a member of the Bernice Methodist Church, where she organized and directed the choir for 25 years. She was also the church treasurer for 40 years and taught all ages of Sunday school. She was involved in many more organizations through her years.

Expo center hosts horse clinic

Kiazziah Allen and Mike Wilson were the sponsors of a Ron McLoughlin Horse Handling Clinic held at the North Louisiana Exhibition Center in Ruston on Sept. 21-23. Most of the 19 riders were from the Delhi and Tallulah areas and three were from Alabama.

Grambling Council of Organizations encourages voter registration

The Grambling Council of Organizations met on Sept.17 to discuss the urgency of getting people in the city of Grambling out to the polls. Each organization was assigned a quadrant of the city. The Alumni Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. were assigned the northwest quadrant of Grambling.

Nursery up through age 3 is provided on Sundays at 10:45 a.m. and by request on Sunday night and Wednesday at 6 p.m.

A special league

Buddy Ball sign-up at park Saturday

Local special-needs youngsters who want to play softball but are not able to play on other softball teams now have a league of their own.
Sign-up for Ruston’s new Dixie Pathfinders Buddy Ball league is from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Saturday at Lincoln Parish Park. The sign-up event includes a free lunch.

Living with diabetes

Ruston gears up for walk fundraiser

Tyler Block was diagnosed with Type I Diabetes at the age of 9.
“He was waking up in the middle of the night going to the bathroom, and he was thirsty all the time,” mother Alicia Block said. “There is diabetes on his dad’s side of the family, so I took him to the doctor thinking it kind of sounded like diabetes, but I was hoping I was wrong. Unfortunately I was not.”

Shots fired

At approximately 5 p.m. Sept. 26, Ruston Police Department officers responded to a shots fired call at Fountain Drive Apartments.
Upon arrival officers found that a male, later identified as Joshua L. Bonner, 24, of Ruston, had allegedly fired several shots into an unoccupied vehicle parked at the apartments.

Rumors of SWN pullout unfounded

The status of several oil wells drilled by Southwestern Energy remains somewhat of an enigma for Union Parish.
However, after Southwestern shut in a well and slowed the pace of its lease purchases, rumors began to circulate that the company was pulling out of the parish. However, those rumors are unfounded based on statements released by the company in August.

Reneau, Tech a great fit

For the past 26 years, the Ruston community and officials at Louisiana Tech University have not had to worry about who would be leading the public university because of the reliable leadership the university has been receiving from current President Dan Reneau.
