July fire losses total $310K

The monthly emergency response statistics for the Lincoln Parish Fire Department for July 2012 have been compiled and released.
The Lincoln Parish Fire Department responded to a total of 30 alarms during the month of July. These 30 alarms consisted of five structure fires, nine grass/woods/brush fires, four motor vehicle fires, one dumpster/trash fire, two motor vehicle accidents/EMS calls, one HazMat call, two false alarms, four good intent calls and two other calls.

CASA of the Third Judicial District celebrates 10 years

CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) of Northeast Louisiana is proud to celebrate the 10- year anniversary of CASA of the Third Judicial District, serving Lincoln and Union parishes.
CASA, or Court Appointed Special Advocates, trains community volunteers to be a voice in court for abused and neglected children. The public is invited to a 10th anniversary celebration from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 21 at First National Bank, 2001 N. Trenton St. in Ruston. Finger foods and refreshments will be served.

Four-legged Furry Fun at City Pool

On Aug. 4-5, Ruston Parks and Recreation hosted a two-day K-9 Pool Party for area dogs and their owners. While admission was free, RPAR asked for donations of dog food or treats.

Ruston’s Locker Room Inc. is a local sporting goods retailer owned and operated by Mike and Yvonne Craft and located at 304 E. Reynolds Drive in Ruston.
The store hours are from 9 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Monday-Friday and 9 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturdays.
The store offers school uniforms, P.E. uniforms, team uniforms, spirit shirts and hoodies for all the local public and private schools at its location.

Cougars, Bearcats schedule scrimmages

Creek has meeting against Loyola, RHS to play Richwood

Tune-up time is nearing for the city’s two high school football programs.
Cedar Creek and Ruston High have preseason scrimmages planned late next week to give them an opportunity for evaluation before “Jam at the Joe” and regular campaign openers show up on the calendar.
The Cougars will travel to Shreveport Aug. 17 to scrimmage against Loyola Prep and the Bearcats have an Aug. 18 scrimmage set up against Richwood in Monroe.

Tech sets new season ticket sales record

With three weeks remaining before the start of the 2012 football season, Louisiana Tech University Athletics announced that the school has already broken its season ticket record — marking the fifth straight year that a new mark has been reached.
The Tech Ticket Office reported that it has sold more than 6,000 season tickets for the upcoming campaign — including more than 1250 new sales as the defending Western Athletic Conference champion Bulldogs open the year Aug. 30 against SEC foe Texas A&M at Independence Stadium in Shreveport.

Bill Doss, age 43 years, passed unexpectedly on July 30, 2012, at his home in Athens, Georgia. Bill was born September 12, 1968, in Ruston, Louisiana, to Donny and Gaye Doss. He was a doting big brother to his younger sisters and was very popular in school. At age 5 years, when asked what he wanted to be when he grew up, he replied confidently, "a football helmet!"
