Riders to ‘Run for the Diamonds’

There will be barrels of excitement this weekend at the North Louisiana Exhibition Center.
Scheduled Sept. 1-3, the 15th annual Run for the Diamonds is expected to draw competitors from Louisiana and surrounding states to compete for cash prizes. In the timed event, participants must race around three barrels in the arena, and there is a penalty for hitting a barrel.

Armed robbery suspects sought

The Ruston Police Department is on the hunt for two suspects allegedly involved in an armed robbery early Sunday morning.
According to RPD Public Information Officer Lt. Tim Parker, at approximately 2:15 a.m. Sunday, two males allegedly armed with handguns came into the EZ Mart on South Vienna Street demanding money.
Parker said the two men got away with an undetermined amount of cash that was in the register, then fled the scene through the parking lot, and officers were unable to find them after the incident.

Grammy nominated singer to perform

A combination of soulful rhythm and blues, with a little rock, will take the stage at the Dixie Center for the Arts, as Marcia Ball will headline on Sept. 13.
“She did a show at the Dixie sponsored by Monty Russell,” said John Emory Jr., president of the Board of Directors of the Dixie. “After seeing the show, and the response she created, we wanted to make her our opening act of the season.”

Williams has found home in Green Bay

GREEN BAY, Wisc. ­— Tramon Williams doesn’t focus on how he ended up in Green Bay, but the former Louisiana Tech defensive back knows being a Packer is a great fit. The Houma native is about to enter his sixth NFL season. Through 79 career games, he has 20 interceptions and the 29-year-old cornerback couldn’t be happier.

Techsters’ soccer team notches third straight win

Louisiana Tech only had one shot on goal in the first period, but that was all they needed as it found the back of the net off the foot of forward Rosie Lethbridge to defeat Central Arkansas 1-0 in Conway, Ark.
The lone goal of the day in minute No. 17 was Lethbridge’s second of the year and came on a lead pass first from Mo Rockwell, then to Laura LeFevour who broke down right and passed across the goal for Rosie to tap it into an open net.
