’Dogs earn votes in AP poll

Another national poll and more recognition for Louisiana Tech University’s football team.
The defending champs for the Western Athletic Conference received a vote in the annual Associated Press national rankings announced on Saturday.
It marks the second time within less than two weeks that the Bulldogs earned votes in a national poll. Tech totaled 10 votes in the recently announced USA Today/ESPN coaches’ poll.

‘Jam’ is evidence football nearing

If any further evidence is required, Saturday’s “Jam at the Joe” should remove it.
Football is almost here and it gets that much closer with the fourth annual preseason event that will be held at Louisiana Tech University’s Joe Aillet Stadium.
Four games are set for the big day, starting with a 2 p.m. matchup of Haynesville against Jonesboro-Hodge and followed by a 4 p.m. battle between Cedar Creek and Rayville. In the night sessions, Farmerville has a 6 p.m. meeting with Shreveport Calvary Baptist and then Ruston helps wind up the action with an 8 p.m. tussle with Minden. Gates will open at 1 p.m. and admission is $10.

Ambrose, Rockwell wed in Maui ceremony

Brooke Anne Ambrose, of Ruston, and Dusty Corey Rockwell, of Crossett, Ark., were united in matrimony June 6 at Kapalua Bay Maui, Hawaii. The double ring ceremony was officiated by Kamuela Rodrigues.

Brooke is the daughter of Dana Lewis, of Simsboro, and Danny Ambrose, of Choudrant. She is the granddaughter of Emory and Nellie Ambrose, of Choudrant, Charles Staples of Calhoun, and Betty Johnston, of Houston, Texas.

Dustin is the son of Ron Rockwell and Ann Fowler, both of Crossett. He is the grandson of Richard and Barbara Fowler.

Lonidier, Pyles to unite in matrimony next month

Danny and Carolyn Lonidier, of Ruston, are pleased to announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Ashley Nicole, to Brandon Todd Pyles Jr., of Ruston.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Henry Paul Morris, of Philadelphia, Miss., Martha Mantooth, of Plaquemine, Jane and Woody Richards, of Arcadia, and Jimmy Wade Lonidier, Sr., of Arcadia. She is a 2007 graduate of Ruston High School, a 2011 graduate of Louisiana Tech University and is currently employed at Glenwood Regional Medical Center in West Monroe.

Alexander faces 2 opponents

Voters are expected to have three choices when they vote for the U.S. Fifth Congressional District seat in the Nov. 6 election.
Qualifying on Friday – the last day to do so – was Opelousas resident Ron Ceasar, no party affiliation.
Ceasar will face off against incumbent Rodney Alexander, a Republican from Quitman, and Clay Steven Grant, a Libertarian from Boyce.
