Watch traffic for start of the school year

The peaceful lull of summertime traffic will end this week as parents and school bus drivers join the bustle to get students back in classes on Friday.
Lt. Tim Parker, public information officer for the Ruston Police Department, said residents will need to pay close attention as they head to work in the next few weeks, as the roadways will become more congested with school year traffic.

Voucher system full of kinks

Some weeks you just have to wonder. Last week was one of those weeks.
On Wednesday, the state fire marshal’s office said it didn’t have the necessary paperwork for Ruston’s New Living Word School to create the second-floor classroom space it needs in order to accept 165 students this school year from the Louisiana Scholarship Program, better known as the voucher program.

Collin Andrew Brown

Collin Andrew Brown passed away August 7, 2012 at his home in Beaver, Utah. He was born July 1, 1991 to Garry Byron and Melissa Hoogland Brown in Dallas, Texas.

Collin loved playing sports, especially baseball and football. He liked skateboarding and boating with his family, was very creative and loved writing, and was very good with kids. He was a very caring and loving young man. Collin is loved and will be missed by many friends and family members.

Missing teen found in Shreveport

A Ruston teen reported missing on Tuesday has been found safe in Shreveport.
According to the Ruston Police Department, Debra Ford-Owens, 16, bought a Greyhound bus ticket to Shreveport on Aug. 12. Until last night, no one was sure if she made it to Shreveport.
Officials were concerned about her health because she is reportedly a severe diabetic who needs medication. However, police located Debra safely by 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.
