Ellis to host skills’ clinic for baseball

Wilbert Ellis has had a lifelong passion with the game of baseball.
And because of it, it’s provided a plethora of enjoyable moments through the years, among them being close friends with the late George Steinbrenner, hosting the New York Yankees in exhibition games at Grambling State University and being an annual director for various NCAA-sanctioned postseason tournaments.

Jackson Parish adds to Hall of Fame list

JONESBORO — Five new members were inducted into the Jackson Parish Sports Hall of Fame on Saturday, June 21st. Talton Barron, Clotee Cowans-Richardson, Charles Pixley, Llewellyn Starks, and Larry Toms brought the membership up to 22 at the fourth annual Hall of Fame Induction Banquet held at the First Baptist Church Family Life Center in Jonesboro.

Martha Sue Winkle Fast

Funeral services for Mrs. Martha Sue Winkle Fast, age 81, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 30, 2012, at Lake Lawn Cemetery under the direction of Lake Lawn Funeral Home in New Orleans. Visitation will immediately precede the service and will last from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m.. Mrs. Fast was born on February 16, 1931, and passed away at her home in Ruston on Sunday, July 22, 2012, following a lengthy illness.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Christian August Fast Jr., and her sisters Ellen Burton and Jean Barnett.
