Funeral services for Mrs. Frances M. Matlock, age 85, of Dubach will be held on Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. at the First Baptist Church in Dubach, LA. Rev. Todd Free will be officiating with burial to follow in the Henry Cemetery in Hico under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston, LA.

Mrs. Matlock was born on June 21, 1927 in Hico, LA and passed away on July 29, 2012, in Ruston, LA following a lengthy illness.

With Ruston Parks and Recreation Department’s fourth annual K9 Pool Party to splash in this weekend, one local veterinarian has a few safety considerations to share with local pet owners pertaining to water.
Dr. Julie Roane, with the Ruston Animal Clinic, said despite being natural swimmers, not all dogs like the water.

But for three representatives from Louisiana Tech University, the world’s ultimate sporting extravaganza officially starts on Friday.
That’s when former Lady Techsters’ star Ayanna Alexander will begin competing in the triple jump for her native country of Trinidad/Tobago.

Take advantage of the state sales tax holiday

With a struggling economy and tough times for almost everyone, saving every little penny possible is just one way to help stay in the black during an economic downturn, and the State of Louisiana is looking to help its citizens do just that this weekend.
Starting at midnight Friday, and running through 11:59 p.m. Saturday, there will be a sales tax holiday during which time the state will not charge any state sales tax — which is 4 percent in Louisiana — to help customers save money on all types of purchases.
