Remembering those who have passed recently

Irby, Marna.jpg

As you know, I get several copies of the Ruston Daily Leader at once, so am slow catching up on the news. However, I do hear by phone from friends, so I often know of the death of my friends before I read it in the paper. High-flying fireworks will light up the sky of Ruston when Temple Baptist Church presents its 15th annual display on Tuesday night.
Approximately $10,000 worth of fireworks — funded by local sponsors — will be shot off in the parking lot. The pyrotechnic displays will be visible by numerous residents who park along the Interstate 20 Service Roads to see the show. Some people can reportedly see the fireworks from miles away.

In order to commemorate the burial of ashes of various retired U.S. Flags, Parnell-Burt VFW Post 3615 and Forest Lawn Memorial Park donated a tombstone near a shallow grave that is used to retire U.S. flags.
The tombstone reads: “Here rests ‘Old Glory’ as do our country’s veterans.”

The Bayou D’arbonne Lake Watershed Commission met recently to discuss the spillway addition, water sales, and the upcoming lake drawdown, among other things, at the Courthouse Annex.
Commission member Joe Ranier said the alternative spillway addition is now 56 percent complete and that concrete footing for the addition has recently been poured behind the spillway gate.

SALLIE HOLLIS.jpg

In connection with the recent membership drive by Piney Hills Harmony Chorus of Sweet Adelines, I asked my fellow singers to share what the organization means to them. Here are some of the responses:
