The Lincoln Parish Library Board of Control formally elected new officers and learned a little more about the outreach program at the meeting on Wednesday.
After a few months of waiting for the Police Jury to re-nominate him for his expired board position — which the jury did this month — member Charles Penuell was named vice president by his fellow board members last week.

Andy and Dawn Warren were surprised, to say the least, when they found out their employees had paid for them and their daughter to take a well-deserved vacation.
“I was so shocked,” said Dawn.
After 19 years in business, the Warrens decided to close Andy’s Handy Foods, located at 2206 Louisiana Highway 33, due to declining sales and the recession.
“I could see where things were going,” said Andy.

Educator has coached, taught throughout Lincoln Parish

The first day of school in August will be a little strange for Rickey Burton.
After 33 years of serving in the Lincoln Parish School System, Burton has finally hung up his baseball cap and retired from the profession.
Most recently, the Ruston native served as assistant principal at Ruston Junior High, which seems fitting since his interest in education was sparked during his own middle school years.

Insects, heat a part of seasonal issues

Our rain this past week was a most welcomed sight.  We could still use more but are very thankful for what we got.
A word of warning: For several years I had a riding mower, and this year it died or should I say just wore slap out. Well, since I have a little more time and need the exercise I decided to get a push mower. A friend had one that was in my price range — cheap.

NATCHITOCHES — Roger Carr and Aaron James had their own “cheering squads” Saturday night at the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame induction ceremonies.
For Carr, the former All-American wide receiver at Louisiana Tech University, there was a large contingent of former coaches and teammates from the Bulldogs’ program who made their way to the Natchitoches Events Center to honor him as one of the new members of the shrine.

NFL lawsuit looms over league
Aswell, Taylor.jpg

This New Orleans Saints “bountygate” stuff is really starting to drive me up the wall when it comes to over coverage of an event. It doesn’t matter what goes on, at least once a day I hear someone on ESPN talking about the Saints and their quest to appeal National Football League Commissioner Roger Goodell’s decision to suspend multiple players and coaches for quite a large chunk of the upcoming season.

Parish duo add to Hall’s legacy

For yet another year, Lincoln Parish has made a lasting imprint on the annual Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame induction ceremonies.
Two more legendary athletes from our area have been added to the shrine’s membership, whose total now reaches nearly 360.
