Teams add on highly-regarded players for 2012-13 season

Recruiting has been good for Louisiana Tech University’s basketball teams this year, as evidenced by several signees that the programs have announced in recent months.
A sizeup of those signees for the Lady Techsters and Bulldogs:
TECHSTERS
BRITTNEY JEFFERSON: Tech has signed the second leading scorer in the history of Texas high school girls basketball when Head Coach Teresa Weatherspoon inked guard Brittney Jefferson to an NCAA national letter-of-intent.

Techsters’ recruiting class has high rating

in

Louisiana University’s recruiting class has been ranked No. 55 in the country by Dan Olson’s Collegiate Girls Basketball Report, which is considered the top service in women’s basketball recruiting.
Head coach Teresa Weatherspoon’s signees are the top-ranked class in the Western Athletic Conference and the second best class in the state of Louisiana behind only LSU (No. 12).

Big catfish catch

Ian Hogg, of Denham Springs, also the great-grandson of former Louisiana Tech University coach and professor George “Blue” Hogg, caught this 16.5-pound catfish recently while fishing on the family pond in Ruston.

Rails to Trails gaining interest

I can still hear it; the late night labored chug-chug of the old steam locomotive as it attempted to gain speed to make the grade of Oshkosh hill.
The railroad track lay like a ribbon atop the raised dump that served as foundation for the Louisiana and Arkansas (L and A) spur of the KCS railroad that cut a swath through the pines and hardwoods a quarter mile behind our country home.
