Yes, football publications already here

in
Davis, OK.jpg

A cornucopia of thoughts and observations on the sports world while wondering if there’s any hope of our Yankees making it to the World Series:
• Here it is, barely June, and already the preseason football publications are reaching the newsstands.
I thought I was seeing things the other day when I was browsing through the sports magazine section of Books-a-Million and there, right in front me, stared the front cover of the 2012 Lindy’s Southeastern Conference football magazine.

Returning honorable mention Class 1A Louisiana Sports Writers Association and first team All-District 2-1A defensive back Jeff Carroll (with football) and his Cedar Creek High teammates could keep opponents on the run again during the 2012 season. Cedar Creek has the “mo” going with its football program.
After two years under former Cougars’ baseball star Ben Haddox, the Cougars have cemented their reputation as one of the top Class 1A teams in the Louisiana High School Athletic Association.
In 2011, the Creek ranked No. 5 in the final Louisiana Sports Writers Association state poll for its class after compiling an 8-2 regular season record.
A 40-0 victory was achieved in the first round of the state playoffs before the Cougars fell to semifinalist Mangham.

Creek field receives ‘haircut’

Turfplaning project will have Cougars’ surface in tip-top shape
10-3.jpg

During the memorable “monsoon” football season of 2009, hardly a Friday night went by when Cedar Creek High or another North Louisiana-based team was taking a “mud bath” on a rain-pelted field.
The turf at Cougar Stadium certainly got a wet workout, among the more notable occasions being against Delhi in which the sloshing sound of cleats and coaches’ boots became as prevalent as fans and cheerleaders yelling their teams on to a victory.
With so much rain over the course of the entire season, drainage woes on the field became as difficult to slow down as a fleet-footed running back.

Bench press record-holder lifts way to success
10-2.jpg

Luke Curry doesn’t have the words “quit” or “give up” in his vocabulary.

Curry was doing some bench presses and was approached by a fellow lifter.
“He told me I had a lot of ability and should start entering some world competitions,” Curry recalled.
