Cunha joins Techsters’ staff

Ex-West Florida star named as volleyball assistant

Louisiana Tech University head coach Adriano de Souza has announced that he has hired Marcela Cunha to serve as an assistant coach on the Lady Techsters’ volleyball staff this season.
Cunha comes to Ruston after spending the past four seasons as a member of the University of West Florida volleyball staff, where the program has won more than 100 matches and four straight Gulf States Conference championships.

Ruston’s Jasmine Hargrove Williams recently captured first place honors in the 11-12 division of the MLB “Pitch, Hit and Run” regional team competition that was held at Minute Maid Park in Houston. Williams advanced into the regionals from local competition hosted by the Ruston Parks and Recreation Department. The event is sponsored by Major League Baseball.

Fireworks permitted

in
LPFD sets shooting dates despite burn ban

The Lincoln Parish Fire Department has received several inquiries pertaining to the current burn ban and how it affects the discharge of fireworks during the Fourth of July holiday.
The LPFD recognizes that fireworks are a part of this patriotic holiday; therefore, the discharge of fireworks will be allowed, but the following restrictions will apply under Lincoln Parish Ordinance 276-06.
• Fireworks may be discharged only between 6 p.m. Tuesday and 6 a.m. July 5.
