Richie leads way for Creek track at state meet

Ruby Richie had a third place finish in the girls’ 100-meter dash to lead Cedar Creek High School’s representation at the annual Class 1A Louisiana High School Athletic Association track and field meet held at Bernie Moore Stadium in Baton Rouge.
Richie was clocked at 12.54 in the event to finish three-tenths of a second behind runner-up Destine Taylor of Oberlin.

Ruston, Tech will be host for 1A/2A play

in

State championship baseball is coming back to Ruston next week, as the city and Louisiana Tech University prepare to host the 2A/1A Louisiana High School Athletic Association state baseball championship tournament Friday and Saturday at J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park.
This will mark the first time the 2A/1A State Baseball Championship will be hosted in Ruston. Ruston previously hosted the 4A/3A State Baseball Tournament in 2010 and 2011.

Song birds in full voice this spring

Maybe it has something to do with the fact I’ve had extra time on my hands this spring while I recuperated from surgery. For whatever reason, I’m hearing songbirds belting it out all around my yard like I never remember hearing; it’s like they’re vying for a top five finish on American Idol.
As I’m sure my readers have concluded after reading my columns for nearly four decades, I’m a hunter and fisherman but I also enjoy watching and identifying songbirds that visit my little plot of ground. This spring, the birds have put on a command performance.
