Tech football players honored by magazine

On the heels of winning a Western Athletic Conference Championship and becoming the likely favorite for next year’s Western Athletic Conference title, Louisiana Tech University has nine players on Phil Steele’s 2012 Preseason All-WAC first team.
In all, Tech had 21 players named preseason All-WAC, with Ryan Allen named preseason first team All-America.

GSU poised for football success again

As usual, expectations are high for Grambling State University’s football team as they enter the summer months and take a break before another season kicks off.
Based on the confidence gained from the 2011 season and their long running reputation, the Tigers have good reason to feel optimistic about this fall.
A total of 13 starters will be back from last year’s Cinderella squad that started slow and finished with a major bang.

Education changes positive

Louisiana Superintendent of Education John White wants the state’s residents and educators to believe in its children.
Throughout the past two years, while I’ve been covering kindergarten through 12th grade education, I’ve repeatedly heard the excuse that teachers can only do so much and the big problems lie at home. I accept that may be true, but like White, I believe those hurdles can be overcome.

Getting serious about La.'s cuts

It’s a hard statement to make, but we might as well go ahead and say it from the outset. The cuts being proposed today in higher education, if they are implemented, will be an absolute disaster for Louisiana. Not just a disaster for schools and campuses, but for the entire state and our future prosperity.

Brazile strives to inspire GSU grads

Political strategist Donna Brazile was given a standing ovation after her encouraging words to graduates at Grambling’s 2012 Spring Commencement.
On Saturday, the Fredrick C. Hobdy Assembly Center was filled with family and friends to witness more than 600 graduates during the ceremony.
As the speaker, Brazile inspired all graduates to believe in themselves, build character and blaze a trail as they begin a new chapter in their lives.
