Smith: Big hit for Ragin’ Cajuns

Just as she did during her outstanding career at Ruston High School, Katie Smith has been a major contributor for the nationally ranked University of Louisiana-Lafayette softball team this spring.
The two-time All-Louisiana outfielder is ranked in the Top Three of 12 different statistical departments for the Ragin’ Cajuns (44-2, 13-2 Sun Belt Conference), who will take their No. 5 national ranking (USA Today/National Fastball Collegiate Association) into a home series against the University of Louisiana-Monroe Saturday and Sunday.

Help Keep the Arts Afloat

The North Central Louisiana Arts Council provides several valuable programs for our community.
There is the Holiday Arts Tour, which each November draws more than 650 attendees, adding an estimated $64,480 to the area economy. The event showcases area artists and musicians for a weekend, allowing them to interact with the public and sell their work.

Finally an end to war in sight

When I was 13 years old, something happened that I would never really quite understand the meaning of, not even now, some 10 and a half years later.
The events I am talking about are the Sept. 11 attacks on the World Trade Center, and while I remember everything that happened, I wasn’t ready for the effect it would have on the world after that gloomy Tuesday morning.
This event starts to mean even more to me now, especially after I watched President Obama’s special speech in Afghanistan on Tuesday night where he was laying out how the war would end and what the plans for the country would be just one year after Osama bin Laden was killed by the U.S.

A few years ago, beauty queen Carrie Prejean innocently answered a question about gay marriage with a polite “no.” She was viciously personally attacked by Miss USA pageant judge Perez Hilton, who posted a video of himself cursing at her.
Prejean was eventually stripped of her crown, and as for Perez Hilton?
“I’d love to have him back,” pageant owner Donald Trump once said. “I mean, I’d love to have him back” — although he didn’t actually do it.

Sarah A. Posey

Funeral service for Sarah A. Posey, age 89, of Ruston will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, May 5, 2012 at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston. Officiating the service will Rev. Greg Tipton. Interment will follow at Mineral Springs Cemetery in Dubach under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston.

Mrs. Posey was born November 29, 1922 in Salem Community MS and passed away May 2, 2012 in Ruston, LA. She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, and husband Lonnie Posey.

Mrs. Posey was a active member of the Mineral Springs Baptist Church for 59 Years.

Funeral services for William Earl Sears, Jr, age 87, of Ruston will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, May 5, 2012 at Owens Memorial Chapel in Ruston. Rev. Jerry Hilbun will officiate the service. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery under direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Ruston.
