Barmore, Mulkey: High praise for Summitt

Pat Summitt will be absent from courtside when the 2012-13 collegiate basketball season tips off, but her famous stare and commitment to excellence will live on forever.
Such was the assessment of her impact on the sport after the 59-year-old native of Clarksville, Tenn., announced Wednesday that she was stepping down as head women’s coach at the University of Tennessee, less than eight months after revealing she had early onset dementia.

Simsboro edges Aggies

SIMSBORO — With the 2012 Simsboro Tigers, pitching and defense has been the key to their success.
That was evident on Tuesday night with Josey Chandler on the mound, as Simsboro defeated Lincoln Parish and District 1-B rival Choudrant 1-0.
It marked the perfect way for the Tigers to celebrate “Senior Night.”

GSU to host Brown art exhibit

Grambling State University will host a solo art exhibit by senior art major Deleisa Brown, titled “FEMIDENTITY.” The exhibition will be held in Favrot Student Union from now until Monday.
Brown explores ideas of feminine beauty and how a woman’s confidence is affected by social pressure to be “beautiful.” She presents simplified silhouettes of nude figures that focus on body contours and rhythmic movement rather than the body as a sexual object. Her belief is that all bodies are beautiful. She says women should identify with Cindy Olsen, who said, “I am the shape that was gifted. ... My hips are wider than that of a fashion model, for this I am glad, these are the signs of a life lived.”

Funeral services for Samuel Luther Barnett, 68, of Monroe, LA will be at 2:00 PM, Friday, April 20, 2012 at Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Monroe, LA with Rev. Jon Tellifero officiating. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Monroe.

Sam Barnett was born on May 19, 1943 in El Dorado, AR. He left this earth on April 17, 2012 in Houston, Texas after a long battle with cancer.
