Aggies compile 3-0 mark

in

Choudrant High’s traditionally strong Class B baseball team captured three victories recently.
The Aggies won over Summerfield 11-2, Hicks 7-5 and Zwolle 13-8.
Capsuling the games:
CHOUDRANT 11, SUMMERFIELD 2: Shane Kassab led the Aggies with a strong game at the plate and on the rubber.
Kassab racked up two RBIs on two hits. He singled in the second inning and doubled in the fourth inning.

Wilmore No. 2 at Memphis tourney

Louisiana Tech University sophomore Travis Wilmore recorded a career-best performance to lead the Bulldogs to a seventh-place finish at the 12-team Memphis Intercollegiate that wrapped up Tuesday.
Wilmore shot a one-over-par 73 in the final round to finish with a three-round total of 218, three strokes behind Kennesaw State’s Ben Green, who won the event.
“Travis played great,” said Tech Head Coach Jeff Parks. “He was so close to winning his first collegiate event. He put himself in position with a great tournament. He had a couple of holes midway through the final round that hurt him, but I am so proud of him. He really stepped up and played well all week.”

Boydstun, Dowling pace Simsboro win

SIMSBORO — Simsboro High’s baseball team pounded out 12 hits and nearly reached double digit in runs with a 9-5 District 1-B victory over Claiborne Christian on Tuesday.
Senior Ben Boydstun and sophomore David Dowling both went three-for-four at the plate to lead the Tigers’ offense.
Boydstun had two singles and a double, drove in a run and scored twice. Dowling’s hits were all singles and he also scored a run.

Cedar Creek diamond teams gain wins

Cedar Creek High diamond teams are off to a good week.
The baseball squad took wins of 1-0 over Sterlington and 11-1 over Farmerville, while the softball team was a 7-3 winner against North Webster.

National volunteer week coming soon

National Volunteer Week is April 15 – 21, 2012. On Feb. 22, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that the volunteer rate rose by 0.5 percentage point to 26.8 percent for the year ending in September 2011. About 64.3 million people volunteered through or for an organization at least once between September 2010 and September 2011. The increase in the volunteer rate in 2011 followed a decline of equal size in 2010.

This will serve to inform the general public that there will be a sale of portable buildings that have been declared as surplus property of the Lincoln Parish School Board. This sale will be conducted on the campus of Choudrant High School at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, May 17, 2012. The minimum price for each building will be displayed on each building. Sealed bids for the minimum posted bid and over will be accepted.

David F. Stinson

Funeral services for David F. Stinson, a state bank examiner, will be held on Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at 11am at Edmonds Funeral Home Chapel in Jonesboro. Officiating will be Bro. Glen Nash. Interment will follow in the Jonesboro Cemetery.

Mr. Stinson was born on December 1, 1928 and passed away on April 9, 2012. He was 83. Mr. Stinson was a member of Grace Community Church in Jonesboro.
