The Doug Letsinger Marine “Rumble on the River,” the second stop for the North Central Louisiana Teams Circuit, was held at Lazarre Point on March 3 with 47 teams participating.
Cloudy cool weather made for some cold runs up and down the river, but the fish were very coorporative as the 47 teams brought 38 five bass limits to the scales for the 3 p.m. weigh-in.

Monty Russell: Local music phenomenon

Lifetime of tunes keep man going
4.jpg

It’s been said if you choose a job you love, you will never have to work a day in your life.
Most days local singer, songwriter Monty Russell said he agrees with that statement. Born in Haile, Louisiana in 1964, Monty moved to Ruston when he was 6 years old. Two years later, at the age of 8, Monty’s musical journey began. His grandfather Leon Russell taught him how to play the guitar by sliding a knife blade across an opened tuned guitar. Leon Russell was a barrelhouse piano, guitar and fiddle player who played every weekend. On one side of town, Leon played the fiddle and strings, while later that same night he would travel across town and perform a blues set.

Brister, Pittman win prize for fishing

Feb. 11 dawned cold and dreary at Ludwig Brothers Marine on Lake D’Arbonne. A strong cold front passed through the area late Friday bringing rain and dropping temperatures. With the thermometer reading 33 degrees and a 15 mile per hour wind out of the north producing a wind chill factor of 27 degrees it wasn’t a very good morning to be having a bass tournament. Although the conditions weren’t good, 47 of the area’s top fishing teams were poised and ready to brave the elements as the North Central Louisiana Teams director, Dale Taylor, kicked off their brand new circuit for 2012 with the Ludwig Brothers Marine “Battle on the Bone.”

Hall said the bridge repairs fall under the Federal Off-System Highway Bridge Program for 2012-13.
