Ruston has good chance to host another ‘28’

Notes gathered at the 2012 Louisiana High School Athletic Association State Farm Insurance “Top 28” championship round that was held at the Thomas Assembly Center:
Back again?
Ruston and Louisiana Tech University may not have seen the last of the annual “Top 28.”
The championship round of the LHSAA’s hoops’ extravaganza could very well be returning to the city and Thomas Assembly Center for the 2012-13 season.

‘Skinny’ had lowdown on turkeys

My outdoor writer friend, John E. Phillips, has contacted me on at least two occasions with information that has left an impact. About this time 20 years ago, Phillips called to invite me to hunt wild turkeys in Alabama; it would be my first attempt at turkey hunting.
Phillips had everything arranged; a place to stay, air fare to Birmingham, all the equipment I’d need and a guide.

Sherry likes future potential of soccer signing class

The 2012 Louisiana Tech University soccer team will have plenty of new faces on the roster next season, as head coach Kevin Sherry has announced the signing of 16 newcomers who will join the squad in the fall.
The 16 signees are Brittany Beddow of Keller, Texas, Nancy Chavez of Garland, Texas, Keely Davis of Baton Rouge,Taylor Douglas of Carrollton, Texas, Samantha Fabian of Long Beach, Calif., Nicole Jaquemet pf Diesdorf, Switzerland, Laura LeFevour of Woodstock, Ill., Lauren Long of Lewisville, Texas, Nony Oko of Baton Rouge, Nicole Poirier of Coral Gables, Fla., Kelly Polk of Leesburg, Ga., Madison Raines of League City, Texas, Mayra Rodriguez of Hockley, Texas, Christine Schimpf of Shreveport, Erica Stewart of Columbus, Ind., and Siobhan Wilson of Waltham Abbey, England.

‘Inside Tech Baseball’ to begin Monday

Louisiana Tech University Head Coach Wade Simoneaux will join legendary Bulldog broadcaster Dave Nitz for the one-hour “Inside Tech Baseball” radio show which debuts for the 2012 season on Monday at 6 p.m. on ESPN 97.7 FM.
Nitz and Simoneaux will recap Louisiana Tech’s five-game road trip vs. Creighton and Nebraska.
Fans have the opportunity to call in and ask Simoneaux questions on the radio show by calling 1-888-993-7762.

Davidson helps lead Cedar Creek victory

Maggie Davidson drove in three runs with a home run and single to help guide Cedar Creek High’s softball team to a 5-2 victory over Monroe Ouachita Christian School earlier this week.
Davidson also scored a run for a Lady Cougars’ team that totaled six hits, including a triple from Haley Gray (two RBIs, run) and a double and single from Lauren Yepson. Caley Pyles was the winning pitcher.

Lady Bearkittens gain meet crown

Ruston Junior High School’s traditionally strong girls’ track and field team began its outdoor season with a championship performance at the Good Hope Invitational.
The Lady Bearkittens ended with 152.5 points to easily outdistance runnerup Ouachita Junior High (93).
Ebenae Eddy led the title-winning show for RJHS with first places in the 100-meter dash (6.18), 800-m run (2:26) ad 400-m dash (1:06).
