Johnson works magic with Dodgers

Alright sports fans, I was watching ESPN and came across a story that made me giggle.
Apparently, Magic Johnson and a group of investors have bought the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Yes, you read right, Magic Johnson is a co-owner of a baseball team. This is something that no one could see coming, but then again, I could expect this from him.

Bulldogs thump Demons, 8-2

Beau Bayliss, Austin Hedges and Jacob Derouen were a combined nine-for-12 from the plate, as Louisiana Tech University defeated Northwestern State 8-2 Tuesday night at J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park.
Bayliss and Hedges were three-for-four with two runs batted in and scored a run, while Derouen was three-for-four and scored two runs to lead the Bulldogs, as Tech moved to 12-12 on the season and the Demons dropped to 10-13.

Bearcats roll past Tide, 18-3

MINDEN — Ruston High’s baseball made it four victories in a row with an 18-3 pounding of Minden High Tuesday afternoon.
The victory boosted the Bearcats’ record to 14-5 entering a Thursday home game against Bastrop starting at 6 p.m.
On Friday, RHS will play host to Ravyille in both varsity and junior varsity action that is set to begin at 4:30 p.m. On Saturday, a District 2-5A doubleheader will be held at Bastrop starting at noon.

The Ruston Parks and Recreation Department is now featuring cardio tennis as a popular full body, calorie burning program at the city courts located adjacent to James Stadium. All of the various aspects of tennis are featured along with cardiovascular exercise. Donate blood to save lives

According to Life Share Blood Centers, seven out of 10 people that enter the hospital will use blood or a blood component during their healing process.
Currently, there is a dangerously low supply of blood in North Louisiana. LifeShare says they try to keep a six day minimum supply of blood, but this year they are struggling to stay on top of that need.
If something doesn’t change soon, many will die without the blood donations.

Movie, books hit close to home

In the new movie “The Hunger Games,” there is quite a bit of symbolism ranging from an attack on the war in Iraq, centralized government and the media as a whole.
Watching it the other night, it even seemed to mesh with the primaries going on right now, especially when you see the way Rick Santorum, Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich all bash each other and Barack Obama, hoping to clinch the nomination.
To catch you up on the story, “The Hunger Games” takes place in a dystopian world called Panem.

Jindal firings raise questions

Here’s a word to the wise: If you sign on to work for Gov. Bobby Jindal, you better not disagree with him. Just ask Martha Manuel. She was head of Louisiana’s Office of Elderly Affairs until she criticized Jindal’s budget plans for the agency in an appearance before the House Appropriations Committee.
