Taylor’s Topics

Saints’ bounty news rocked sports world
Aswell, Taylor.jpg

While I should have been enjoying my time watching March Madness over the past few weeks, sadly I have only been concerned with the news out of New Orleans that I am almost positive half the U.S. is familiar with at this point.
That’s right, the suspensions have been handed down for the “Who Dats” and I must say, National Football League Commissioner Roger Goodell really proved his point with the length and magnitude of the suspensions he handed out.
The most notable would have to be Saints head coach Sean Payton, who, starting April 1, will be suspended from the league, without pay I might add, for one full season.

Sadler pitches Aggies to win

in

CHOUDRANT — Choudrant High’s baseball team got a superb pitching performance out of Heath Sadler in a 6-1 weekend victory over Summerfield High.
Sadler worked seven solid innings and ended with 12 strikeouts and didn’t issue an earned run while giving up only two hits and three walks.
Hunter Antley reached base three times for the Aggies’ offense and scored once while registering a run batted in and a single.

The importance of reading

in
DeGrie, Elizabeth.jpg

If you hadn’t heard of “The Hunger Games” before, you’ve most definitely heard about them by now — especially considering every single seat in the local Celebrity Theatres was filled with fans during the midnight showing last Thursday.
I was handed the book by the girlfriend of one of my husband’s brothers the first time we met about three years ago. We had talked through Facebook for awhile, and she knew our interests were similar. So, she handed me the book and told me I had to read it, and that it was one of the greatest works of young adult fiction she’d ever read.

Registration is open for 4-H Summer Camp

in
Simmons, Amanda.jpg

It is time for 4-H Summer Camp! I know, I know, you’re thinking; “But it’s not summer yet!” Well, that is true — but registration for 4-H summer camp has begun. Because 4-H Summer Camp is one of the most important events that 4-H offers for youth, planning has to start early. Camping is one of the most valuable experiences a child can have. Many fourth, fifth, and sixth grade boys and girls participate in 4-H Summer Camp. The camp is held at the LSU AgCenter’s Grant Walker 4-H Educational Center, an 80-acre campsite located near Pollock on Highway 8 about 15 miles northeast of Alexandria.

Dealing with the opposite sex

in
Rosemond, John.jpg

Question: We recently found racy pictures on my 13-year-old son’s smartphone. The women were not nude, much less participating in sex acts, but were wearing very revealing bikinis, short skirts and halter tops. Their poses were very provocative as well. My husband says this is normal stuff and wants to completely ignore it. I say we should deal with it. What say you?
