Students shadow on jobs

Cedar Creek School junior and senior students visited area businesses on Groundhog’s Day, Feb. 2. Local businesses partnered with Cedar Creek School allowing students to “shadow” professionals in career areas that were of interest to the students.
Opportunities for shadowing included the medical field, engineering, banking, education, the culinary field, accounting, law, veterinary medicine, law enforcement, fashion merchandising, graphic design, religion, the restaurant industry, small business entrepreneurship, golf professional/club management and the gas and transportation industry.

Aggies: Toast of Choudrant

Talk about Choudrant High’s outstanding tradition in athletics and, more times than not, the Aggies’ super baseball program earns a quick and admiring mention.
And it won’t be long before Tony Antley’s Boys of the Spring get in gear and make their proverbial march to postseason play.
But right now, the buzz around Aggie Country is boys’ basketball and for a good reason.
They’re simply one of the best teams in the Class B ranks of the Louisiana High School Athletic Association.

’Dogs aren’t worried about polls

Louisiana Tech University’s baseball team isn’t letting some preseason polls get in the way of their optimism for the 2012 season.
Of three different polls that have been released on the Western Athletic Conference race, not a single one gives the Bulldogs much of a chance to contend for a championship, much less finish in the upper half of the standings.

Waldon: Passing of a fellow angler

Kay gave me an e-book last Christmas and I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to download books, kick back in my recliner and read while she watches “The Bachelor”.
One of my favorite all-time humor writers was Lewis Grizzard and I just finished reading one of the last ones he wrote, “I Took A Lickin’ And Kept On Tickin’”.
In this book, Grizzard, born with a heart condition, wrote about his three open heart surgeries to replace a faulty mitral valve.

RGSA sets sign-up dates for season

The Ruston Girls Softball Association is currently registering for the spring softball season.
Individuals began registering at the RGSA complex on South Farmerville Street on Saturday and will also have the opportunity to do so on Feb. 25 from 9 a.m.-noon. Registration forms can also be picked up at the Ruston Locker Room or logging on to the organization’s website at www.rustonsoftball.com. The RGSA offers softball for girls ages 5-18. The cost of registration is $65 for ages seven-through-18 and $40 for T-ball. The last date for registration is March 3. More information is available by calling Cheryl Lamkin at 235-5477.
