Caldwell ready for GSU challenge

GRAMBLING — Percy “Chico” Caldwell is used to overcoming obstacles.
Growing up in Clarksville, Miss., he was oftentimes told that he wouldn’t succeed in athletics or make good grades.
So all Caldwell did was go on and become an outstanding basketball player at Miles College, later to be inducted into a Hall of Fame for that sport in the West Virginia Conference and all the while compiling impressive grades in the classroom.

Techsters: Momentum for home games

It was all nice and good that Louisiana Tech University’s Lady Techsters won two key Western Athletic Conference games on the road last week, but now they’re back home and that’s where they really want to sparkle.
“We must protect our house,” said Lady Techsters’ head coach Teresa Weatherspoon about three straight conference contests that will tip off tonight with a 6 p.m. meeting against San Jose State, continue at the same time Saturday against H-awaii and conclude on Feb. 25 against New Mexico State. “We’re happy about what we did on the road last week, but now we’re back home and we want to win here in two more important WAC games.”

Once more, first-year Head Coach Michael White and his young Louisiana Tech University basketball team discovered why there’s the emphasis on the letters W-A-C in the Western Athletic Conference.
When it comes to travel, the league definitely offers up some W-A-C-k-y scenarios.
How about the Bulldogs’ recent trek to Utah State and Idaho?

Funeral services for Mr. Clinton Lee Davidson, age 89 of Dubach, will be held at 3:00 PM Friday, February 17, 2012 at Owens Memorial Chapel in Ruston. Rev. Randy Ray and Bro. Don Stevens will be officiating the services. Burial will follow in Pines Memorial Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Ruston.

James Thomas “Tommy” Gardner

James Thomas “Tommy” Gardner born January 1, 1929 to Adele & Howard Gardner here in Ruston, La. and died February 13, 2012 in North Richland Hills, Tx. at 2:30 p.m. His loving wife & family surrounding him at Manor Care Nursing Home. There was a short funeral service held this morning at 9:30 a.m. at Mt. Olivette Funeral Chapel in Ft. Worth Texas for Family and friends in the Community where he had resided for the past 19 yrs.

The body will arrive in Ruston for a full Military Honors graveside service at 10 a.m. Friday morning February 17 at the Cooktown cemetery here in Ruston.
