Asked once about why Lincoln Parish universities have turned out so many players for the professional footall ranks through the years, former Grambling State University star Doug Wililams deadpanned:
“It’s probably something in the water.”
Well, that “water” has flowed with plenty of talent for too many years to count and particularly for supplying representatives in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

A familiar fixture at the Choudrant-based, award-winning Tom Fazio-designed course, Pullin has been chosen for a prestigious honor by PING, the nearly 60-year-old company in Phoenix, Ariz., that manifactures and markets a variety of golf equipment.

State: Bumper year for trophy bucks

The deer season that just ended in Louisiana goes down as a whopping success for me. No, I didn’t get my buck but I had the opportunity to interview and write about scores of other hunters who did.
I came away from this past season with enough evidence to validate that Louisiana takes a back seat to few other states when it comes to producing trophy bucks. True, some of the corn-fed giants in Iowa, Kansas and Canada can weigh as much as a Holstein heifer with rocking chairs on their heads but for overall quality, including body size and characteristics of head gear, we’re right up there with the best.

Powerlifting, cheerleading added to LHSAA calendar

The 2011-2012 has brought plenty of new and exciting changes for the Louisiana High School Athletic Association and its member schools. The association added two non-sanctioned sports: cheerleading and powerlifting.
The cheerleading program has excelled this school year becoming one of the LHSAA’s events with the most participants — more than 1300 athletes!

Tech ‘Inside’ show set Monday

This week’s addition of “Inside Tech Basketball” presented by Miller Light and featuring Louisiana Tech University head basketball coaches Mike White and Teresa Weatherspoon will be held Monday from 6 to 7 p.m. at Scott’s Catfish on Farmerville Highway in Ruston.
The one-hour radio show airs live on ESPN 97.7 FM.
This week’s show will feature White and Dave Nitz discussing the Bulldogs’ recent Western Athletic Conference road tests against Utah State and Idaho.
