IBERIABANK launches football fan video contest

IBERIABANK, the 125-year-old subsidiary of IBERIABANK Corporation, has recently launched “The Greatest Football Fan” video contest, which encourages IBERIABANK Facebook Fans to create and submit a short video into the contest for a chance to win weekly prizes and one grand prize at the end of the campaign.

Singh inducted into the School of Criminal Justice Wall of Fame

Mahendra Singh wants teachers to instruct their students without favoritism and prejudice.
“Teach each and every student with respect, love and maximum ability, irrespective of students’ skills, to make them aspire to the highest goal in their life,” Singh appealed to his fellow professors at Grambling State University and other higher education institutions.
Singh is the department head and a professor in the university’s Department of Criminal Justice in the College of Professional Studies.

Jindal announces Sparta district appointments

Gov. Bobby Jindal recently announced appointments to the Sparta Groundwater Conservation District.
The Sparta Groundwater Conservation District serves to study and survey the groundwater resources in the district regarding issues such as conservation, land surface subsidence and groundwater quality degradation. The board advises the commissioner of conservation based on their findings.

Ribbon-cutting ceremonies were held Oct. 18 for RE/MAX Results Realty, located at 201 N. Trenton St. in downtown Ruston. The ribbon cutting was sponsored by the Ruston-Lincoln Chamber of Commerce.

The Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Banquet will be held from 6-8 p.m. Dec. 10 at the West Monroe Convention Center, located at 901 Ridge Ave. in West Monroe.

’Cats clinch playoff berth

Ruston High School’s football team hit the “trifecta” on Friday night at L.J. “Hoss” Garrett Stadium at James Field.
Homecoming.
Senior Day.
Playoff berth wrapped up.
The only thing Head Coach Billy Laird and his Band of Bearcats’ Brothers could have maybe enjoyed more was having a winning Powerball number.

Cougars cruise past Arcadia

Cedar Creek gains eighth regular season victory

After struggling last week at top-ranked Ouachita Christian, Cedar Creek needed to right the ship before the playoffs and the Cougars did just that at home Friday night, rolling over winless Arcadia, 42-14, to finish with a 3-1 mark in 2-1A action and end the regular season with a solid 8-2 record.
Cedar Creek’s starters built a 42-0 halftime lead before turning the game over to reserves in the second half. It was a perfect way to end the regular season, as many players saw action in front of a “home” crowd at Cougar Stadium.

I.A. Lewis: two wins

The I.A. Lewis boys’ basketball team claimed two close wins recently.
The Rams beat Grambling Middle School 33-28 at home led by center Romorien Parker and guard Johntavious Gray who scored 10 points apiece.

Bulldogs win, 65-55

Louisiana Tech men’s basketball team leaned on their stifling defense to defeat Southern Arkansas 66-55 Friday night in the Thomas Assembly Center in the team’s final exhibition before the regular season begins.
Both teams got off to sluggish offensive starts with the Bulldogs reaching the double digit score first after over 11 minutes of action had passed. Tech would increase their lead by as much as 16 in both halves with the pesky Muleriders never able to take the lead as the ’Dogs went wire-to-wire for the win.

Techsters host exhibition today

Louisiana Tech will host its only exhibition game of the year when the Lady Techsters face Mississippi College today at 2 p.m. at the Thomas Assembly Center.
Admission is free.
Head coach Teresa Weatherspoon’s team returns six letterwinners — only one starter — from last year’s squad that posted a 17-15 record while reaching the championship game of the 2012 Western Athletic Conference Tournament before falling to Fresno State.
