RHS playoff tickets to go on sale Tuesday

Tickets for Friday night’s regional round Class 5A Louisiana High School Athletic Association playoff game between Ruston and Monroe Ouachita will go on sale Tuesday.
The two Interstate Highway 20 rivals and District 2-5A members will meet at 7 p.m. at L.J. “Hoss” Garrett Stadium at James Field.
Prices for the tickets are $8 if purchased prior to the game and $9 on the day of the contest.
Ruston (6-5) advanced into the regional round with a 28-13 bi-district round victory over previously unbeaten South Lafourche (9-1) this past weekend at the Tarpons’ field.

Tech radio show slated tonight

Following their game against Texas State University on Saturday night, Louisiana Tech University Head Coach Sonny Dykes will join Dave Nitz Monday night for Hill Oil’s Inside Bulldog Football at 5:30 p.m. at the Dawghouse Sports Grill in Ruston.
Dykes and Nitz will review the game against the Aggies and preview the Western Athletic Conference home showdown against Utah State University set for 3 p.m., Saturday.
The one-hour radio show can be heard live across the Tech Sports Network, including KNBB 97.7 FM of Ruston and Monroe.

Moore on All-Academic team

Senior tight end John David Moore (84) of Ruston High School has been chosen to the composite squad of the 2012 All-Academic football team by the Louisiana High School Athletic Association. Moore, who has helped guide the Bearcats into the regional round of the Class 5A playoffs, has compiled a 4.00 grade point average.

Prepare vehicles for the cold

Though winter doesn’t officially start until late December, more than a few cool mornings recently have already forced residents to begin their mornings with a car defrosting routine.
Despite the mild winters North Louisiana faces compared to some of our neighbors to the North, some of whom have already been impacted by winter storms, the fact is that local residents still need to do a few things to make sure their vehicles carry them safely through their daily lives.

'Tis the season of gluttony

I am a fairly food conscious person. Not necessarily for health reasons, but more out of vanity. I would by no means call myself a nutrition Nazi or anything, but I do watch what I eat.
I try to stay away from foods that are fried, have a lot of sugar or contain cheese — except for Sundays. Sundays are meant to gorge on a 14-inch sweep the kitchen from Johnny’s Pizza. If you don’t think I can eat all of that by myself, think again. It may take me several hours, but I can do it.

Vallery, Alsup wed

Amanda Michelle Vallery, of West Monroe, and Timothy James Alsup, of Ruston, were united in matrimony in a 6 p.m. ceremony Fair Park Baptist Church in West Monroe. The double-ring ceremony was officiated by Dr. Chris Craig.

The bride is the daughter of Steve and Pat Vallery, of West Monroe. She is the granddaughter of Amos and Verlyn Vallery, of West Monroe, Dorthy Nugent, of West Monroe, and the late J.W. Nugent.

Timothy is the son of Carey and Marty Alsup, of Ruston, and he is the grandson of the late Jacob and Mattsye Pearce and the late N.C. and Carolyn Alsup.

Rogers, Blackburn unite in matrimony

Erin Elizabeth Rogers, of Ruston, and Michael Jared Blackburn, of Arlington, Texas, were united in matrimony in a 7 p.m. ceremony Nov. 10 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Ruston. The double-ring ceremony was officiated by Deacon Larry Vines.

Erin is the daughter of Steve and Julie Rogers, of Ruston, and she is the granddaughter of Sandra Belaire, of Ruston, Ron and Beverly Cook, of Lafayette, and the late Aubrey and Margie Rogers.
