NLWS conditional use approved

Aldermen vote four to one to accept P&Z recommendation on school

New Living Word Church, Inc., received approval for a conditional use permit during the regular meeting of the Ruston City Council on Monday night.
In a split four to one vote in favor, the board approved the permit that will allow the school to move forward with its plan to build a 12,000-square-foot, two-story building.
The new building, when finished, is expected to house 400 students, nearly double the 208 students currently enrolled in the school.

Second Chance Show set for Oct. 6-7 at Expo Center

Area residents will have an opportunity to see some unique vehicles during the Second Chance Car, Truck and Bike Show & Run.
The second annual event is set to begin at 9 a.m. Saturday and Sunday, with registration beginning at 8 a.m., at the North Louisiana Exhibition Center.

For 46 years, transplant has called Ruston home

George Parkman said one of the best decisions he ever made was to move his family to Ruston.
It was 1966 when Parkman relocated here from Louisville, Miss., with his wife, Callie, and then 3-month-old daughter Carol.
At that time the manufacturer’s representative had the option of moving to anywhere in Louisiana or Arkansas to market his territory for Taylor forklifts. But it was Ruston — which reminded him of his hometown of Opelika, Ala. — that captured his heart.

Bulldogs happy to be home

After back-to-back road games, Tech at ‘Joe’ Saturday

Louisiana Tech University brings its winning road show back home this weekend.
The still perfect Bulldogs completed a back-to-back road trip with a 44-38 win at the University of Virginia on Saturday and will now perform in front of their local fans with a 6 p.m. Saturday duel against the University of Nevada-Las Vegas at Joe Aillet Stadium.

Nelson, Cameron on awards’ list

Louisiana Tech University’s super start to the 2012 football season has helped put numerous players in the national spotlight.
Two of those Bulldogs who are in the running for prestigious awards are placekicker Matt Nelson and quarterback Colby Cameron.
Nelson has been chosen as a candidate for the National Football Foundation and College Football Hall of Fame Scholar-Athlete award.

Populous picked to design addition for Wyly Center

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Louisiana Tech University has announced that it has selected Populous, a sports design and architecture firm headquartered in Kansas City, along with local architecture firm TBA Studios headquartered in Monroe to design an addition to the Wyly Athletic Center.
The Athletic Center will serve as a multipurpose facility in conjunction with Joe Aillet Stadium.

Cougars move up to No. 5

Cedar Creek has advanced two positions in the weekly Louisiana Sports Writers Association football poll for Class 1A, with the Cougars moving from No. 7 to No. 5 following a 43-12 win over Delhi this past weekend.
The once-beaten Cougars (4-1) received 77 points to move ahead of No. 6 Haynesville (3-2), which totaled 73 points.
