Analyzing state's property taxation

The new year has begun. There will be many new faces in the state legislature that will soon convene to enact and amend laws that will impact our lives. This is also a year in which the state constitution requires that all residential and commercial properties must be reassessed to determine their current values for property tax purposes. The quadrennial reassessment ritual always coincides with the arrival of new legislators.

Man accepts plea bargain of probation

A Ruston man arrested in August for visiting a residence he was banned from, strangling his former wife and endangering a child was sentenced to two years supervised probation Jan. 10 after he accepted a plea deal.
Martin Dewayne Allen, 41, was charged with domestic abuse battery by strangulation along with child endangerment, unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling and returning to the premises after being forbidden by the Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office in late August.

Arrest made after guitar, neon sign stolen from Rabb’s

A 32-year-old Louisiana man was arrested early this Thursday morning at his hotel after he allegedly stole a guitar and a neon sign off the wall at Rabb’s Steakhouse.
Joseph Albert Rachal, 2673 Marco Road, Lena, was charged with theft over $500 after Grambling Police Department officials arrested him. He is currently in custody at the Lincoln Parish Detention Center with a bond set at $2,500.

Parish teams in state poll

Dubach, Simsboro, Cedar Creek, Choudrant earn high rankings

In March, Ruston will serve as the site for the finals of the Louisiana High School Athletic Association’s annual boys’ and girls’ basketball playoffs.
If the first weekly state polls are any measuring stick, Four Lincoln Parish schools just might have a good chance to be among the participants at that event which is set for the Thomas Assembly Center March 8-10.
Girls’ teams from Cedar Creek and Dubach and boys’ squads from Simsboro and Choudrant are included in the Louisiana Sports Writers Association poll that was announced on Wednesday.

RHS banquet slated Monday

in

Tickets remain available for Ruston High School’s annual postseason football awards’ banquet to be held Monday.
The 6 p.m. event is set for the Louisiana Tech University Student Center.
Admission is $20 and tickets can be obtained at the main office of Ruston High School through 3 p.m., Friday.

Robertson due fitting honor

Memorial Gym court to carry name of late Bulldogs’ coach

If only the walls could talk at Memorial Gymnasium.
And if they could, much of the chatter just might be attributed to the late R.S. “Scotty” Robertson.
For 10 years, he guided Louisiana Tech University’s basketball Bulldogs to not only local and state glory, but national recognition.
