Wall, Rupert to unite in matrimony

Dr. and Mrs. Michael Albert Teague, of Baton Rouge, and Dr. and Mrs. Ray Wilton Wall, III, of Quitman, are pleased to announce the engagement and upcoming marriage of their daughter Kristen Nicole Wall, of Simsboro, to Ryan Scott Rupert, of Houston, Texas.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Sallie Evelyn Monk, of Prairieville, the late James Edward Joiner, the late Mr. and Mrs. Ray Wilton Wall Jr. and the late Kenneth and Patsy Ray.

She is a 2006 graduate of Simsboro High School and a 2009 graduate of Louisiana Tech University. She was an active member of Phi Mu Fraternity.

Hallowell, McCullin to marry in October

Bev Hallowell is pleased to announce the engagement and approaching wedding of her daughter Amy Hallowell, of Pratt, Kan., to Gabe McCullin, of Ruston.

The bride-elect is the daughter of the late Dean Hallowell and the granddaughter of Shirley Swihart of Norwalk, Iowa, the late Lonnie Swihart and the late Raymond and Vonia Hallowell, of Palmyra, Neb.

Kelley, Pace to exchange vows

Stephen and Donna Kelley, of Farmerville, are pleased to announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter Allyson Lynn to David Brian Pace, of Sterlington.
The bride-elect is the granddaughter of John and Bonnie Wilson, of Tool, Texas, the late Norma Wilson, John Richard Kelley Sr. and Christine Kelley.
She is a graduate of Cedar Creek School and San Antonio College of Medical and Dental Assistants.
Allyson also attended South Ark Community College.
The groom is the son of Robin L. Pace Sr., Carrie Barkley and the late Louise Pace.

Hearne, Allen to wed

Scott and Shelly Hearne, of Ruston, are pleased to announce the engagement and approaching wedding of their daughter Sarah Hearne, of Ruston, to Daniel Allen, also of Ruston.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Merlyne Meche, of Opelousas, the late Dale Meche,
David Hearne, of Lafayette, and the late Shirley Hearne.

Sarah is a 2008 alumna of Ruston High School and attends Louisiana Tech University. She is employed as a realtor at Acres and Avenues Realty.

Serving the uninsured

Mobile health unit to aid parish residents

Beginning this month, Lincoln Parish residents with no insurance will finally have a place to help them when they’re sick.
A ribbon cutting will be held for The Health Hut, which is a nonprofit mobile health unit, at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 8 at the Ruston-Lincoln Chamber of Commerce.
The Health Hut, which was founded by gastroenterologist Leonel Lacayo and his wife Lisa, will make stops in all of the municipalities in Lincoln Parish on a regular basis.

Surveyor’s ATV topples over

According to Ruston Police Department officers on scene, the man in the vehicle was allegedly driving too close to the ditch on the side of Kentucky Avenue, approximately one mile from Louisiana Highway 33, and tipped over. The driver suffered minor injuries to his knee, and was transported by Ruston EMS from the scene.

Police: Texas man takes own life

An investigation into a Texas man possibly drinking and driving ended tragically last week, Union Parish Sheriff Bob Buckley said.
Joel Keith Dillenburg, 43, of Lorena, Texas, reportedly took his own life after a deputy approached the vehicle that was parked on the side of Louisiana Highway 33 near the Lincoln-Union Parish line, the sheriff said.
 A Pafford Ambulance Service crew called the sheriff’s office around 1 a.m. Aug. 18 reporting that a car had pulled to the side of the road.

RFD receives call influx

The Ruston Fire Department has seen a rise in calls ranging from car accidents to medical emergencies.
Eric Brazzel, RFD public education officer, said on average the fire department received 233 calls per month over the course of June, July and August.
Based on last year’s numbers and calls in the last couple of days, Brazzel anticipates the calls to increase significantly.

Barrels of fun: Riders ‘Run for Diamond’

14th annual three-day event slated to begin at 5 p.m. Saturday

Hundreds of cowboys and cowgirls will saddle up to test their speed and coordination this Labor Day weekend.
The 14th annual “Run for the Diamond” is slated to race forward Saturday and run through Monday evening at the North Louisiana Exhibition Center.
Admission to the event is free, and a crowd of about 3,000 spectators is expected to show up throughout the three-day weekend.
