RHS class of 1951 celebrates 60-year reunion

The Ruston High School Class of 1951 held their 60-year reunion at the Lincoln Parish Park on Sept. 9. Present were the following classmates, plus their spouses: Front row, left to right: Margaret Nix Evans, Jimmy Dooley, Norma Robinson Lyles, Barbara Anderson Hastings, Pat Ingram Bailiff, Esmeralda (Essie) Coker Burnham, Mary Frances Adney Clark, Barbara Colvin Johnson, Ann Norris Stedman and Patricia Reese Edwards.

Bearfoot to perform at Dixie, offers three-day residency

One of the leading young bands that is reshaping American roots music, Bearfoot, will bring its award-winning sound to Ruston for three days in October, courtesy of a partnership between the North Central Louisiana Arts Council and the Dixie Center for the Arts.
The post-bluegrass band will provide a concert at 7 p.m. Oct. 11 at the Dixie Center. Tickets are $20, with free admission for Louisiana Center for the Blind students.

Tech fraternity receives award

The Gamma Psi Chapter of Pi Kappa Alpha (PIKE) was recognized as the recipient of the 2010-11 Harvey T. Newell Most Improved Chapter of the Year at the Pi Kappa Alpha International Awards Banquet held in Memphis, Tenn., on July 30.
This is a highly honored award that is eligible to more than 214 Pi Kappa Alpha chapters across North America, but only awarded to one chapter. The award reflects the commitment to excellence and service of the almost 60 active LA Tech PIKE men.

Home games greet two of Lincoln Parish’s three high school football teams Friday night.
Back on its own turf after a close battle at perennial power Haynesville last weekend will be Cedar Creek, which will play host to Delhi.
Ruston High is at home for the third consecutive week with a meeting against Minden.

Lacy capped super career at Tech

One of the most dominating women’s basketball players in the storied history of Louisiana Tech’s program didn’t begin her college career wearing the Columbia blue uniform of the Lady Techsters.
Instead, 6-foot-4-inch center Venus Lacy laced up the high tops in 1984-85 as a freshman at Old Dominion – one of Louisiana Tech’s biggest rivals in the 1970s and ’80s.

Techsters ready to start WAC soccer play

Olivia Lukasewich have tuned up for Western Athletic Conference soccer competition in the right way.
Behind two goals from the senior, the Lady Techsters’ team defeated Southeastern Louisiana 2-1 in recent action at Lady Techster Soccer Complex.
Now it’s on to the start of the WAC campaign, as Tech will play host to New Mexcio State on Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Lady Techsters’ Soccer Complex.
