Despite its afternoon time slot, the special-called Lincoln Parish School Board meeting drew a small crowd on Monday.
The 1 p.m. meeting called by Board President Otha Anders to discuss pending litigation in the United States of America v. Lincoln Parish School Board lasted fewer than 10 minutes before it was called into executive session, forcing members of the media and public to wait outside.
The focus of the meeting was a strategy session and/or action in regards to pending litigation, which involved a status update of the board’s compliance with a court order that was filed decades ago to desegregate parish schools.

Training attendees to get a grip on domestic violence

The Domestic Abuse Resistance Team will conduct its 11th annual training, “Collaboration Is the Key,” on Thursday at the Ruston Civic Center.
This domestic violence training is geared toward judges, law enforcement officers, attorneys, clerks of court, victims’ advocates, domestic violence advocates, mental health practitioners and others who have a professional interest in working with victims of domestic violence.

Students learn about leadership skills at camp

Children who had attended I.A. Lewis during the sixth grade and were now moving to the seventh grade at Ruston Junior High School had the chance to experience a college atmosphere by attending a camp hosted by Louisiana Tech’s department of kinesiology.
They were allowed to live in a college dorm for a week, use the facilities that university students used and attend scheduled activities facilitated by university students.

Ways to fix ‘bad holes’ revealed

Shortly after I moved to the South in 1957 I was listening to an LSU horticultural researcher and he was talking about “bad holes” in horticulture. Now I knew what a bad hole was. We lived out on the end of a 3-mile gravel road that had plenty of bad holes but concering horticulture I did not know the term. Last weeks article brought back to mind his talk. He was talking about microenvironment spots that caused troubles in landscapes.
