Linda Bass: New Head of School

Texas native settles in at Cedar Creek

A career in education was the perfect path for new Cedar Creek Head of School Linda Bass, who has “always loved school.”
Though originally from East Texas, Bass has spent much of her life in Louisiana and has called Shreveport home for the past 18 years.
Throughout her career, Bass has taught and been principal at both private and public elementary, middle and high schools.

Personal present ­— finishing novel by Christmas

Finishing my novel this year — I am; however, I have just decided it needed a prologue about when the heroine was 9 years old; then start the book when she’s 29, so I’m starting over, sort of.
It’s not as foolish as it sounds. I was getting pretty far into the book and kept having flashbacks to this time in her life, so I’ve decided a prologue would clear all that up. Therefore, I’ve done a three page prologue — now I have to go back and take out all the flashbacks, or at least the majority of them.

Emerald Entertainers take home awards

The 2011-12 Emerald Entertainers recently performed at Northwestern State University National Dance Alliance Summer Camp in Natchitoches. The EE’s won a Superior Performance for their Home Routine which exemplifies the NDA standards in dance and performance technique. They also won the NDA Spirit Stick, the Superior Performance for Team Dance, two All American Nominees, Taylor Weeks and Morgan Corie, and one All American Girl Winner, Katie Stuckey.

Tech architecture professor lands cover of national journal

An article by Guy Carwile, professor of architecture at Louisiana Tech University, on the history of the Jack Tar Hotel in Galveston, Texas and its innovative and progressive “poolscape” concept is featured on the cover of the spring 2011 edition of Society for Commercial Archeology (SCA) Journal.
Carwile’s article highlights the Jack Tar’s beginnings as a humble pre-World War II tourist court through its transformation into an exemplary mid-century motor hotel. Its signature element and centerpiece was the swimming pool and pool terrace that was arguably one of the finest hydro-centric assemblage ever built for transient use.

‘Pigskins and Pearls’

The annual “Pigskins and Pearls” event at Squire Creek Country Club on Thursday was sold out for the second year in a row.
Women who attended the luncheon were presented information on the role of a running back as well as a cornerback. The purpose of the event, Louisiana Tech head football coach Sonny Dykes said, is to generate more interest in the program.
