For Kix Brooks, Grammy Award-winning country music star and Louisiana Tech alumnus, his inspiration came from another alumnus of Tech, Terry Bradshaw.
At the annual alumni event Happening XXX, Tuesday night at the Monroe Civic Center, Brooks made an announcement that he would be donating some of his country-music memorabilia to the university.

Better water in Ruston?

in

The city of Ruston is embarking on a project that is expected to improve water quality and fire protection in various downtown areas.
Water Utilities Operations Manager Troy Whitman said the project entails replacing old, deteriorating four-inch water lines with six- and eight-inch lines. The larger pipe size will enable a greater volume of water to be utilized, increasing fire protection, Whitman said.

The new map was redrawn to better align the districts with the population shifts shown in the 2010 U.S. Census. It shrank the number of representatives from seven to six, but retained two North Louisiana-based districts, including the Fifth District of Rep. Rodney Alexander, R-Quitman.

Ruston firefighters extinguished a kitchen fire on Tuesday night that appeared to have started when stove burners were accidentally left on.
Eric Brazzel, Ruston Fire Department public education officer, said approximately 16 firefighters responded to a call after 9 p.m. of a structure fire at Jackson and Larson streets.
“On arrival, flames were visible through the roof,” Brazzel said. “Firefighters extinguished the fire quickly to find damage in the kitchen area as a result of unattended cooking.”

Keep kids safe in a digital age

Today’s children have been one of the first generations to grow up with the Internet.
Students are gearing up to head back to school and with that comes the expanded use of the Internet for projects and assignments among other things.

Perry, Owen.jpg

If you’re ever tempted to make a mountain out of a mole hill, just remember, even Mt. Everest has been scaled successfully more than 100 times. And not by some kind of mythological “supermen” who were incapable of failure, but real, flesh-and-bone folk like you and me.
So don’t be intimidated by circumstances! If you can’t go around your problems, just resolve in your heart to go over them — then start climbing. You’ll discover that the view from “the top” is usually more than rewarding.
