Levy: Increase in felony arrests equals greater costs

Lincoln Parish felony arrests have more than doubled in the last decade.
According to Third Judicial District Attorney Bob Levy, there were 314 felony cases that came before his office in 1991. But by 2010, that number had jumped to 650.
“The population hasn’t doubled,” Levy said. “We’ve just had more serious drug arrests.”
Lincoln Parish Sheriff Mike Stone attributes the increase in arrests in large part to a combined record management system, which makes it possible for officers who encounter a suspect to see if they have a warrant with another law enforcement agency.
