The water situation is getting critical for many plants that have no irrigation.
Plants, especially trees or large shrubs that were planted last year, have not had time to grow an extensive root system to maintain a good size top and this drought is definitely taking its toll. Sprinkler systems may not get the water down to the roots.

Senior Extravaganza planned in Gibsland

Community Coordinating Council, Inc. is a non-profit organization providing enriching and educational experiences for senior citizens in a four-parish area (Bienville, Claiborne, Lincoln and Union).
For the fifth year this organization, along with State Rep.Richard Gallot, Jr. will sponsor a Senior Extravaganza.

Eastern Star donates to NAMI Ruston

Recently, the Ruston Chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI Ruston) was given a $1,000 donation from the Esther Grand Chapter, Order of Eastern Star, Prince Hall Affiliation.
This donation was made possible by the efforts of Christene Jones-Williams of Dubach, district deputy grand matron (D.D.G.M.) for the 15th district in the state of Louisiana.
On June 4 Jones-Williams was given the honor of being named the district deputy grand matron, Prince Hall Affiliated for the year 2011-2012 for the state of Louisiana.

Hadnot earns state honor

So going from high school to college in track and field is supposed to be difficult, huh?
Apparenty not for Trey Hadnot.
The former Ruston High School star did just fine during the 2011 season.
Not only did he excel in the sprints and relays for Louisiana Tech University, but he also obviously impressed the voters on the annual Louisiana Sports Writers Association All-Louisiana team.

Allick killed in Connecticut

Former Bulldogs’ hoopster was close to earning degree

Former Louisiana Tech Bulldog basketball letterman Donnell Allick was shot and killed recently in New Haven, Conn.
Allick, 31, was a New Haven Register all-state basketball pick in 1997-98, and after attending Winchendon School in Massachusetts, went on to play for Providence College and then Tech.

Russell Alan Ferrington

Russell Alan Ferrington, 57 of Ruston, LA,   passed away Sunday,  June 26, 2011. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, June 29, 2011 at 10:00 AM at  Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Ruston, LA. under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home. Alan was the son of Russell C. and Mildred D. Ferrington, both deceased. He is survived by uncle and aunt; Ray and Bunchie Ferrington, and aunts Evelyn and Tiny Ferrington, all of Wisner, LA, and numerous cousins and special friends. He was an accountant for Exxon, for Celeron Corp. of Lafayette, and its subsidiaries and parent companies.
