With boots, studded belt and buckle, she looked like she stepped off a country music magazine.
Her country twang made her even more down to earth as the interview with the Daily Leader started. Sixteen-year-old Chancie Neal is making her mark on Nashville but still maintaining her roots. Before making Nashville her home, she was born and raised in Calhoun.

Bordelon to run for assessor

Sheila G. Bordelon announces her candidacy for the office of assessor for Lincoln Parish.
A lifelong Lincoln Parish resident, Bordelon has worked in the Assessor’s Office since 1990. In 1993 she became a certified Louisiana deputy assessor after completing the education and examination requirements.

Tainter gate project under way at lake

Fourth of July fireworks blowout scheduled in Farmerville

FARMERVILLE — The Bayou D’Arbonne Lake Water District Board heard maintenance update reports and agreed to allow the Farmerville Chamber of Commerce to use the lake for a Fourth of July fireworks show as it held its monthly meeting last week.
One project the board reviewed was the Tainter gate project, which engineer Ron Riley said has gotten under way.

Tree care protects power, property

It is not only important to keep trees pruned, but hydrated as well.
Two power outages in downtown Ruston over the last two weeks can be attributed to limbs from reportedly healthy trees falling on power lines.
City of Ruston forester Koby Mills said the limbs falling can be blamed on the heat and dry weather.

To keep the child safe, parents need to keep in mind sun damage, water safety and heath related illnesses when sending the child outside to play.

Reneau comments on Tech, LSU talk

Over the past few weeks, quite a bit of media attention has been given to discussions in Baton Rouge about moving Louisiana Tech University from the University of Louisiana System (ULS) to the LSU System. Although this is not a new idea, it has resulted in a number of questions from faculty, staff and supporters as to what it means for the future of Louisiana Tech. To that end, I wanted to provide you with my perspective and position on this matter.

Peach Fest offers variety

Visitors from all over came out Saturday to view what vendors had to offer at the 2011 Squire Creek Louisiana Peach Festival.
Attendees that stepped inside the Ruston Civic Center to cool off were able to purchase homemade arts and crafts as well as a variety of other items.
