RPAR runners complete first 5K

Why start running?

Why run? People start running for many different reasons. Some people are looking for a new challenge in their lives. Some people are inspired by the accomplishments of others. Some people want to lose weight, increase physical endurance, and improve their health. Other people use running as an outlet in their lives to reduce stress, get over a tough situation or have “me” time. No matter what your motivation is to begin running know that anyone can run.

Youth take sewing lessons

Machines were buzzing and there was lots of excitement in the air as 11 youth designed their own original creations at the LSU AgCenter basic sewing class.
Youth learned that sewing can be fun said Cathy Judd, Family and Consumer Science, extension agent. She guided the students through a three day workshop. Students learned how to thread a needle, sew on a button, hand stitch, some basic sewing techniques and operate a sewing machine.

Zeta Rho ESA chapter named best in state

Ruston’s Zeta Rho chapter of the Epsilon Sigma Alpha won Chapter of the Year at the group’s state convention held June 3-5 in New Orleans.
The women’s service organization is best known in the area for co-sponsoring the annual St. Jude Radiothon with KXKZ 107.5 radio station.

The drought that struck the farms in our area that summer was something else! Day after day, the sun beat down mercilessly, as sweat poured in agonizing rivulets from both ploughboy and plow mule. Our fields of black-eyed peas and butter beans, along with the corn, yams and Irish potatoes, seemed in imminent danger of a slow, scorching demise — (a sobering thought, since they spelled the difference between eating or not eating in the months ahead).

’Dogs rank high in national stats

Louisiana Tech University’s baseball team made the hits happen in 2011.
Now, the NCAA’s statistical report verifies it.
The Bulldogs (34-27) rank in the Top 100 of three different categories of the final chart, all dealing with offense.

But if he did, there’s three names in New Orleans Saints’ history that he would circle on his ballot.
Morten Andersen.
William Roaf.
Drew Brees.
