Coaches’ association, LHSAA work as ‘team’

The LHSAA comprises a variety of stakeholders with unique needs and contributions to the association. This includes our coaches, who serve as community leaders and role models in fostering the development — both in life skills and athletic abilities — of our state’s student-athletes. The Louisiana High School Coaches Association (LHSCA) exists to unite and organize coaching endeavors statewide.

Johnson named state’s top player

Louisiana Tech University forward Adrienne Johnson and McNeese State coach Brooks Donald-Williams led their respective teams to the 2011 NCAA Tournament and this week both of them were honored as they were named the Louisiana Sports Writers Association Women’s Basketball State Player of the Year and Coach of the Year.

Banquet recognizes WAC regular season champs

Louisiana Tech senior forward Adrienne Johnson picked up two more awards Friday night during the annual Lady Techster Appreciation Banquet held at the Tech Student Center.
Johnson received the Offensive Award and the Rebounding Award presented by Lady Techster head coach Teresa Weatherpoon.
Freshman Jelena Vucinic received the Lady Techster Award, junior forward Kiara Young picked up the Academic Award and senior guard Tarkeisha Wysinger-Mackey earned the Defensive Award.

RHS gains 15-2 league win over West Ouachita

Ruston High upped its overall record to 15-8 and District 3-4A mark to 7-2 with a split of a Saturday doubleheader at West Ouachita.
The Bearcats won 15-2 in the second game after losing 6-2 in the opener at the Chiefs’ diamond.
Michael Welch got the pitching decision for Ruston in the win, as the senior lefthander struck out five batters and issued five hits over five innings.

’Dogs split with New Mexico State

Jeb Stefan allowed just two hits and tossed a complete game seven-inning shutout as Tech knocked off New Mexico State, 7-0, in game one of the doubleheader, but the Aggies capitalized on three unearned runs and solid relief pitching to take game two, 7-5, Saturday afternoon at J.C. Love Field.
