Louisiana ranks high for pre-k access, funding, quality

in

Louisiana’s early education programs ranked 13th for percentage of 4-year-olds enrolled, according to the annual survey of state-funded preschool programs released recently.
“The State of Preschool 2010 showed that Louisiana ranked in the top half of states for enrollment and funding,” said W. Steven Barnett, co-director of the National Institute for Early Education Research (NIEER) and author of the report.

Dr. Edmund Nelson “Buzzy” Roots Jr.

Dr. Edmund Nelson “Buzzy” Roots Jr. was born in Galveston, TX, in 1927, but grew up in the Rio Grande Valley. Following in his father’s footsteps, he went to Texas A&M to become a Texas Aggie to the core. “Gig’em!” After graduating A&M, he served in the U.S. Army Signal Corp stationed in Germany. He returned to Texas A&M to teach and earn his MS in Electrical Engineering. He taught for three years at Mississippi State University, while earning his PhD in Electrical Engineering. In 1967, he moved his family to Ruston, LA, to teach at Louisiana Tech University for 33 years.
