Parish football begins to heat up

Tech on the road, GSU stays home, preps open league play

Louisiana Tech University returns to the road, Grambling State University takes a weekend off and Ruston High, Cedar Creek and Grambling High kick off their district seasons.
Those are the main items on the Lincoln Parish gridiron menu for this weekend.
On the college scene, the Bulldogs (1-4, 0-1) continue their Western Athletic Conference schedule with a 4 p.m. meeting against the University of Idaho in Moscow, Idaho.

Across the pond to play ball

The closer that it draws to Nov. 1, the more that National Basketball Association fans bite their nails. The reason for that is because this is the date that regular season basketball is to be played, but there are no hopeful signs from above that suggest this will be the case.
The lockout situation has plagued our television screens and work water cooler talk since summer.

WAC apologizes for Tech game delay

Western Athletic Conference commissioner Karl Benson apologized Tuesday for the delay in Saturday’s Hawaii-Louisiana Tech game in Ruston that was caused when an instant replay review took 22 minutes to conduct.
The review occurred early in the second quarter following a punt by Hawaii.
During the preceding series of downs, a timeout was called by Hawaii, as a third down play was being run.

Tech golfers No. 2

CHOUDRANT — Louisiana Tech University’s golf team finished as the runner-up and eight strokes behind champion Southern Mississippi at the annual Tech-Squire Creek Invitational that concluded at the Squire Creek Golf and Country Club course on Tuesday.
Tech trailed USM by three strokes going into the final round. The Golden Eagles capitalized on the par-five holes to win the title with a four-under-par 284, while the Bulldogs shot one-over-par 289.
