Stone is running for re-election

Sheriff Mike Stone has kicked off his campaign for re-election as Lincoln Parish sheriff.
Stone, who was first elected to the position in 2003 and will be seeking his third term, said his department has met several goals during the last seven years, but there is still more that he hopes to accomplish in the coming years.

Wreck claims life

A Ruston woman was killed on Friday in a two-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 80 west of Ruston. 


Louisiana State Police Troop F Troopers responded to the crash at about 12:38 p.m. The investigation revealed that a 2006 Dodge Dakota was traveling west on U.S. 80, when, for unknown reasons, it crossed the center-line and struck a 2007 Chrysler van in a head-on manner.

Early voting set to begin Saturday

Local, state races included on ballot

Those who are unable to make it to the polls during the Oct. 22 primary elections will have an opportunity to vote early beginning Saturday.
Early voting dates and times are set from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday through Oct. 15, with the exception of Sunday, in the registrar of voters’ office in the Lincoln Parish Courthouse.

Waterfest washes in

Students fill up on Sparta smarts

For the second year in a row, Lincoln Parish hosted its Waterfest program, and Friday saw approximately 300 Bienville Parish fifth-graders spending the day at Lincoln Parish Park learning about the always-important world of water.
The Waterfest program was developed to teach students the importance of conserving water, while they also learned about many other aspects of water.

Glen View Elementary

Educational experiences planned for students

Kindergarten
Kindergarteners at Glen View Elementary have had a fun and successful school beginning. They are learning how to sit in their desks, work cooperatively with others, how to work quietly by themselves and how to walk in an orderly line. It has also been a time of learning academically. They have learned so many new things in a short amount of time.

Rotary Club honors students

The Ruston Rotary Club proudly announces the recipients of the September Student of the Month Awards. Recognized by Rotarian Jim Tuten, each student was honored at the Sept. 21 luncheon and presented an award of achievement. Each awardee has maintained a minimum GPA of 3.5 and been active in extracurricular activities and leadership roles on their respective school campus.
Cedar Creek senior Saraf Ahmed has compiled a 4.34 GPA and scored 31 on the ACT.

CenturyLink honored with Freedom Award

ARLINGTON, Va. — CenturyLink was one of 15 employers from across the nation to be honored with the 2011 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award.
The Freedom Award is the highest recognition given by the Department of Defense to large, small and public sector employers for their exceptional support of employees serving in the Guard and Reserve. The annual awards were presented on Sept. 22 at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center in Washington, D.C.

Ribbon cutting held for S2S Tutor Center

Ribbon cutting ceremonies were held Sept. 13 for S2S Tutor Center, located at 728 Celebrity Dr. in Ruston. The ceremony was sponsored by the Ruston-Lincoln Chamber of Commerce.
