Trade agreements could help farmers

Four years, two U.S. presidents and six Congressional floor votes later, Louisiana farmers and ranchers are a giant step closer to realizing the nearly $2.5 billion in new agriculture exports projected with the implementation of free trade pacts with Korea, Colombia and Panama.
The House and the Senate last week passed a series of bills to move forward with the U.S.-Colombia Trade Promotion Agreement, the U.S.-Panama Trade Promotion Agreement and the U.S.-Korea Free Trade Agreement.

Proper response breaks bad habits

Q: My twin boys will be 3 years old next month. They sleep in the same room. They’ve recently taken to getting out of their beds (together, although one seems to be the ringleader) every night, over and over, for up to two hours. They make a lot of noise, then they giggle and run when I approach and feed off each other as they’re escaping. I’m not sure what to do. All I know is that what I’ve been doing isn’t working! Help!!!

‘Mr. Patriotic’ award

VFW Post No. 3615 Commander J.D. Harper was honored in September by Louisiana Tech Athletics, the City of Ruston and Green Clinic with the “Mr. Patriotic” award during the communitywide Pep Rally in Railroad Park. Harper was given the award for his efforts to promote patriotism in the community.

Festival quilt winner

Eleanor Franklin of Junction City proudly displays the Louisiana Chicken Festival Raffle Quilt she won with a ticket she purchased at The Hollis Seafood Buffet in Spearsville. Jean Lowrey, a Dubach Restoration and Beautification Organization member, presented Franklin with the quilt standing in front of the Bernice Pharmacy.

Tech nursing students tackle many activities

ity nursing students have been busy with the traditional welcome breakfast for newly-accepted students into the nursing program, Safety Saturday, Red Cross Health Fair and attending the Louisiana Association of Student Nurses convention.
Nursing 114 students hosted the welcome breakfast, and they helped provide new students with the resources they will need to succeed and grow in their nursing career.

RHS, West Monroe collide Friday in 2-5A battle

Regardless of how different their victories were last weekend, Ruston and West Monroe are headed for one of their perennial I-20 showdowns on Friday night.
And now that they’re back together in the same league, that’s the way it should be.
On Friday night, the Bearcats (4-3, 0-1) ripped North DeSoto 47-3 at the same time the Rebels (5-2, 2-0) were sneaking past Ouachita 17-14 in an overtime thriller.
Next up: an RHS-West Monroe duel at the Rebels’ stadium on Friday starting at 7 p.m.
