Life insurance — how much and what kind?

Question: My wife and I are expecting our first child. The lady we bought our auto insurance from is suggesting a whole life policy for $100,000. Is that enough coverage? Too much? Is this the right kind of policy?
 
Answer: A $100,000 policy should be fine, as long as you don’t plan on staying dead for long. Otherwise, you may want to reconsider.
Do some “back of the envelope” math. Suppose you now earn $40,000 in your job. Whether your wife works or not, I assume your $40,000 is pretty important to your family’s income.

Several years ago, a book titled “Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus” was quite popular. As the title suggests, the book argues that men and women are vastly different from each other, particularly in their emotional needs and in the way they communicate.

Caregiving is seldom easy — it involves providing financial, physical, emotional and spiritual support to someone who is unable to live independently. According to the Family Caregiver Alliance, approximately 44 million unpaid individuals (mostly family members) provide care each year to ill or disabled loved ones who are age 18 or older.

“Schism: The Shattering of Christendom” will be the topic for the October Historical Happenings that will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday,
Oct. 31 will be the 494th anniversary of the beginning of Father Martin Luther’s protest against the Catholic church.
Library staff say area residents are invited to come learn how one monk’s actions began a movement which would forever alter the course of western civilization.

Union School District receives a ‘D’

in

Louisiana public schools received a C average with a score of 93.9, and the Union Parish School District received a D average with a score of 82.1 for 2011, the first year in history that the Louisiana Department of Education released letter grades to schools, districts and the state as a whole.
